Hello All,
Yes you are right in thinking the title of this post is the new Windows OS that is expected to be released sometime between 2010 and 2012, with its many names. Also ’Windows 7′ is the name the finally decided on! Although this information was released sometime time ago, I feel the too be new OS justified a discussion.
Originally if the time span had been kept too Vienna is the OS that, we all shoul have now. However with all the new functions, tools and abilities, that should revolutionise how Windows is used/opertaed, was promised, it was too much, that even Microsoft, could not deliver on time. Due to this reason we now have Vista. Orginally Vista was meant ot be a Windows XP R2, but as Vienna was not ready, it was developed into a new version of Windows. Although Vista is nice to use, it is innevabilty, the same as XP, with a few new functions and a new skin/theme. With this as well in the early beta stages of Vista, is was as buggy as anything, with some features orginnay promised, not even present. This may be down to the time frame they had to make it into a totally new version of Windows or something else. However from what I have seen, most of these bugs, appear to have been sorted and such.
Anyway, whats going to be new with Vienna? Shiuld we be excited as some enthusiastes? When is it actually going to be hear?…..
Well if you wait I will tell you! Lol
As for th answer of when its going to be hear, Microsoft Confirmed that Vienna will be availible to the public, within the next 3 years about 2011. Vienna is is actually going to be THE new Windows, with piles of new functions, tools and features, with the field of HCI, really being looked into, chaging the way us Users, will intercat with Windows.
Plans to get rid of explorer, the task bar and menu etc. are in development, with replacements such as the ‘pie menu’, WinFS(Windows Future Storage based on relational databases) and Powershell with much more. As an example you may want too look at Apple’s interface for the MAC, Win 7 may even give them a ride for their money! Talk of starting right from scrattch building Vienna right on top of Windows NT has been mentioned. Support for MS-DOS 16bit applications is also, not going to be availible.
Due to the slow way 64bit OS’s have been taken up, Vienna will be availible in both 64 and 32 bit versions. This I feel is a bit of a pain, as in a way it is slowing progress, as I feel most PC suppliers of selling 64bit provessors, should provide a 64bit OS, as without it, you will not get the full advantage of your 64bit processor!
Also as an added bonus Windows have come up with something called ‘MinWin’ for when they release Vienna. This is more or less Windows just downsizing there kernel, as it does have the reputaion of being a bit ‘laggy’ or should I say hefty. Vienna is planned to be more or less built on top of this, with the ‘MineWin’ kernel, being no more than 25MB on disk and 40Mb on setup. MinWin is also something that Microsoft hope future OS’s will be built upon.
Well they I feel are the main points, but check out the video below of the interface:
This I think looks really cool, and I for one will be looking forward to using it! Well if there is anything you would like to add, rant or become overly enthusiastic about Windpws 7 please leave a comment!

Microsoft should sort out the problems with vista they currently have before working on a new OS. I think it is too soon after vista and they know they released vista way to early and made big mistakes, thats why we’re getting Vienna. Some of the design of Vienna are looking more and more like Mac OSX!
Yes, very true, but I would imagine Microsoft, should fix most problems by 2012, but Vienna is meant to be totally different anyway which should be good!
There are also a couple of new service packs due out before then too for Vista.
Also, I agree it does kind of look like Mac OSX lol
.
They better do or otherwise they are gonna kill most of the computers with vista on lol. I take it they are gonna charge for the service packs ???
Yeah very true! The service packs I would imagine are free, as thats what they usually are, at leasr with XP.
